About >>

The goal of the Save Our Farm Youth (SOFY) Day Camp program is to reduce the incidence of agriculture-related injuries, illness and deaths by increasing the awareness of the potential dangers associated with specific farm and ranch practices. Day camps are designed to teach basic safety practices to farm and urban youth. Volunteers from local communities plan and conduct the day camps.

SOFY is coordinated by a partnership consisting of SDSU Cooperative Extension Service, South Dakota CARES, and Avera Rural Health Institute. SDSU provides the administration and curriculum for the camps, South Dakota CARES takes leadership for fund raising, and Avera Health supplies resources for the health aspect of the program.

SOFY camps would not be possible without the generous contributions of our statewide and local sponsors. Thank you to all the organizations and individuals who have donated money, time, and goods to the SOFY cause.

The agriculture Health and Safety Program at SDSU coordinate state and national resources to reduce injury and fatalities of rural South Dakotans.
